Hello from Shropshire!
I’ve been trying to take a couple of weeks off to coincide with Rob’s leave from work, and we had a lovely 2 nights away at our favourite small hotel on the Welsh coast, where we found summer for the day.
And then last week, we were down near Bath for 2 nights last week to attend Auntie Phyllis’s 90th birthday party, staying in a beautiful converted barn and again found a day of summer.
I’m also working on so new mini courses – so watch this space. Thank to everyone who got back to me with suggestions
All of this explains why my blog posts are little top heavy on the recipes and just a little bit recycled.
Maple Nut Granola Recipe Updated
After a bit of a break, when I was convincing myself that the healthy granola from the supermarket was as good as my own homemade, I made a batch recently and realised it wasn’t!
I’ve updated the recipe a bit based on my latest preferences and healthy eating guidelines >> Maple Nut Granola Recipe
It’s also plum season, and this recipe goes beautifully with some greek yoghurt and my roasted plum recipe ( link to that from the granola recipe page )
Surviving Silly Season
It’s the middle of August, and that means it’s what I’ve always called silly season for B&Bs ( in the northern hemisphere at least)
In my experience, a combination of becoming increasingly tired and frazzled as a B&B owner, because it’s right in the middle of the busiest time of the year, with a different type of guest staying, can lead to an increase in stress and a lowering of tolerance levels.
If this sounds familiar to you right now, check out these blog posts:
How to stay motivated when you’re running a B&B ( why being scared of a sabre toothed tiger is a good thing )
Setting boundaries when you’re running a B&B ( featuring the day I ended up in an awkward doorstep threesome with my guests )
Are you letting your chimp run your B&B? ( always check your room kettles before checking guests in )
Email problems
Just a reminder that I’m having a bit of a problem with people not receiving my direct emails from this address. So if you send me an email I’ll be replying from my shropshirebreakfast@googlemail
I hope you have a great week
Karen
