A Penzance B&B believes it has stolen a march on global hotel chain Marriott International by introducing an Amazon Echo Dot device into every guest bedroom.
AA four-star rated Dunedin Guest House owner John Bolton installed the technology in each of his B&B’s eight bedrooms in May this year, some two months before Amazon announced it was trialing the digital room service in Marriott hotel rooms.
Bolton said he is running a guest survey for the first six months to assess the value of the guestroom facility. He said he predicted making a return on investment.
He advised other B&Bs considering implementing such a facility to ensure they disable the purchase facility from guest bedrooms. “It is interconnected to our business Amazon account, so you have to prevent guests from making purchases on it, but it is very easy to switch off the ordering facility on the Alexa app,” he said.
