Leading b2b WordPress agency Miramedia has this week announced completion of its acquisition of leading independent hospitality magazines Luxury Bed & Breakfast and Innkeeper.

The two titles were previously owned by magazine publisher and events specialist JLD Media. Tunbridge Wells-based Miramedia managing director Dominic Johnson said: “I am delighted to have acquired Luxury Bed & Breakfast and Innkeeper. After working for a number of b2b titles over the past 20 years, we’re really excited to be working on a title of our own. We see it as the natural progression.

He added: “The quality of editorial and the readership of the magazines has risen dramatically in the hands of its previous owners. We have acquired a quality product and a talented editorial and production team, and we intend to use our expertise in the digital arena to bring the high standard of editorial proactively to a wider readership.

Luxury Bed & Breakfast and Innkeeper magazines merged earlier this year, with the printed magazine expanding accordingly to accommodate both markets.

The titles’ established editorial team headed by Bill Lumley has joined Miramedia and will continue to produce consistently high-quality editorial copy. Lumley himself has 30 years’ experience as a managing editor, specialising in hospitality, global retail, luxury design and intellectual property, as well as financial sectors including insurance, private banking and investment.

New owner Dominic Johnson, who has many years’ experience in digital marketing, stressed the printed magazine would continue as the core offering of the portfolio, adding: “We are very pleased to have reached agreement with Stephens & George Print Group to continue to publish the magazine. We’re looking to enhance the current offer and with Bill, work out even more ways to connect with our readers.

At the start of 2020 the magazine will be introducing a monthly newsletter with unique online-only content.

Luxury Bed & Breakfast and Innkeeper magazines will continue to focus on inns, luxury B&Bs, boutique hotels and high-end independent guest houses. They will also include diligently researched features on all aspects of running an independent hospitality business.

The finance section introduced in 2017 by editor Bill Lumley will continue, with each issue providing a focus on financial issues pertinent to the high-end independent hospitality sector. The section will cover such areas as managing a lull in income during quiet off-peak seasons, pitfalls in insurance and how to avoid them, negotiating the best premium, and techniques for keeping bank charges to a minimum.

The magazine’s highly popular regular profiles of UK-wide luxury B&Bs, inns and boutique hotels will be stepped up in 2020. Meanwhile Miramedia is planning to relaunch the magazines’ Excellence in Luxury Service Awards in the new year.

The publications’ former owner JLD Media managing director Helen Richmond said: “I am sad to say goodbye to the two magazines, as JLD refocuses its publishing portfolio on retail and associated events. But I am very pleased the hospitality titles are in the safe hands of Miramedia, which will build on the success and hard work the editorial and commercial teams have put into making a great success of the magazines covering a growing and vibrant sector.”

Editor Bill Lumley is always open to considering worthy editorial contributions, comment and innovative suggestions from businesses serving the UK independent hospitality sector.
